Disney and Bloomingdale’s are partnering for a “Star Wars: The Force Awakens”-themed fashion-meets-fundraiser initiative called “Force 4 Fashion.”
Fashion favorites Cynthia Rowley, Diane von Furstenberg, Giles Deacon, Halston, Opening Ceremony, Ovadia & Sons, Parker, Rag & Bones, Timo Weiland and Todd Snyder are taking inspiration from “Star Wars: The Force Awakens” costume designer Michael Kaplan’s fashions from the film. Those looks will be revealed at a “Force 4 Fashion” event in New York City on Dec. 2. They will be put on display at Bloomingdale’s New York City flagship store the next day.
Between Dec. 2-18 the outfits will be auctioned off on CharityBuzz.com with the proceeds benefiting Bloomingdale’s holiday partner Child Mind Institute, on behalf of “Star Wars: Force for Change.”
“This collaboration celebrates the distinctive synergy between film and fashion in the run up to an exceptional moment in the history of pop culture. We’re excited to see how this incredible lineup of designers interpret Star Wars characters in unique ways, as well as to raise money for a great cause,” said Leslie Ferraro, co-chair of Disney consumer products and interactive media, and president of Disney consumer products.
This is not the first “Star Wars”-themed fashion venture; J. Crew, Cover Girl, and just recently, Hot Topic have launched collections inspired by the sci-fi franchise.
This is also reminiscent of the collaboration between Saks Fifth Avenue and “Empire” that put looks based on the hit Fox show in store windows leading up to the second season.
